What is diesel fuel reconditioning?
It is the process of restoring diesel that has degraded in storage. Fuel is drawn from the lowest point of the tank, filtered to remove water, sludge and organic waste, polished to take out micron-sized particles, then stabilised and returned to the tank. It is an alternative to draining and replacing the fuel.
Do our generators have to be taken offline?
No. The fuel never leaves the storage tank and tank cleaning runs concurrently with polishing, so the generator stays available throughout the job. That is the main reason the work suits hospitals, airports and data centres.
How often should stored diesel be inspected?
We recommend fuel quality inspection, testing and sampling every three to six months, and fuel polishing with tank cleaning every six to twelve months. The right interval depends on what sampling finds — water level, microbial growth, degradation and sludge.
How do I know if the diesel in my tank has degraded?
Common signs are clogged filters, water at the bottom of the tank, a darkening of the fuel and visible haze or suspended solids. Degradation is gradual and often invisible until the generator is called on, which is why scheduled sampling matters more than waiting for symptoms.
